Dorie travels so she can savor the world's beauty

Living With Usher 1F - Dorie's Perspective

In my thirties, living with Usher Syndrome type 1F has made me acutely aware of the precious nature of my remaining vision. I've come to realize that I should never take it for granted. With this newfound perspective, I've embarked on a mission to make the most of my vision and truly savor life's beautiful moments.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of this journey has been my travels. I've made a conscious effort to seek out and visit the most breathtaking and picturesque destinations around the world, going to London, Amsterdam, and Italy this past summer. These trips have allowed me to immerse myself in the beauty of our planet. I've taken in the sights with an intensity and appreciation I've never felt before. Each breathtaking landscape, historic site, and natural wonder has become an opportunity to capture the world's beauty with my remaining vision.

Being a foodie and having a deep passion for beautifully plated dishes, I've also been indulging in the culinary wonders the world has to offer. Every meal has become a sensory experience, where I not only taste but also visually savor the artistry and creativity of expertly crafted dishes.

One of my most heartwarming joys is watching my adorable nephews grow. Their every milestone and adorable expression are moments I cherish. Being able to see them flourish is a blessing I hold dear.

Beyond these personal experiences, I've explored neat immersive pop-up places that allow me to engage with my surroundings on a whole new level. These experiences have enriched my life and expanded my perspective, turning even the simplest outing into an adventure.

I am profoundly grateful to the supporters who have stood by us throughout the past ten years, helping to make the dream of a cure for Usher Syndrome a reality. Their contributions and participation in fundraisers have brought us one step closer to conserving my remaining vision and granting me the freedom to enjoy these sights on my terms, not the condition's timeline. Their unwavering support has been a source of inspiration and motivation for me.
