Tenth Anniversary
On October 10, donors, families and board members gathered at the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ, to celebrate ten years of achievements towards a cure for Usher 1F. Notably, $10 million has been raised in ten years for Usher 1F. Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception, a screening of Usher 1F Collaborative’s film, Seeing Forward, and a performance by American Idol and America’s Got Talent contestant and finalist, Christian Guardino. Born with a severe form of retinitis pigmentosa called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, Christian received gene therapy at age 13 that restored much of his vision. Christian’s journey reminded us that our quest for a cure is within reach.
We hope you have found our series, A Ten Year Journey, insightful and interesting. While we hold so much pride in the accomplishments of Usher 1F Collaborative in ten years, we have not yet achieved our ultimate goal of a cure. We are close though and we know our dedicated scientists, families, board members and donors will not stop until there is a treatment to save the vision of those with Usher 1F. Please stay tuned for the final chapter of our series, Seeing Forward.
